A Pastoral System Centred Around Care and Guidance

Leading the tutor team are the two Assistant Directors of Sixth Form, Caroline Middleton (Assistant Director of Year 12) and Claire Heslop (Assistant Director Year 13), and the Sixth Form Guidance Manager. The Assistant Directors are responsible for ensuring that both staff and students alike are able to perform to the best of their ability. The Guidance Manager is available to help students with a range of issues.

On entry into Year 12, each student is put into the care of a named form tutor who is responsble for overseeing his/her personal and academic growth. Students new to Park View are placed with a student from their old school where possible and are mentored to ensure that they have settled in well. Students that have come from vocational pathways are offered extra support.

At the beginning of each term, time is set aside for tutors to carry out a review with each student. Targets arising out of this discussion are recorded in the Personal organiser which each student is provided with.

The Sixth Form tutor team is kept as stable as possible in order for each tutor to accrue a body of knowledge about Post 16 options from which to counsel students about future pathways. They are supported by a timetabled programme of careers guidance, which covers all aspects of employment and Higher Education opportunities, making much use of outside expertise in order to inform students as full as possible.

There is an extensive PSHE programme that includes careers, health, enterprise and citizenship.

UCAS applications are made with an extensive programme of help and support. Personal tutors write the UCAS references for their tutees.

There is a Code of Conduct for Sixth Form students.

There is financial support available.
